Family Pre-Wedding Portraits, Bristol

Caroline and Geraint are soon to be married at Orchardleigh in Frome and I’m looking forward to shooting their wedding. Last month we met up at Brandon Hill in Bristol for a relaxed family portrait shoot and the sun shone for us that morning, we were very lucky! Picnic blankets, soft toys and lots of laughter seem to be the key ingredients to a successful shoot with young children and it was wonderful to document this happy family interacting with one another. Family shoots outside like this create a wider and more colourful variety of natural images than posed studio portraits. Little Ivor did make it easy for me though as he is one of the most cheerful and smiley toddlers I’ve ever met. Gethin was also a star, very happy to be clowning around infront the camera and had lots of ideas for shots to try out.

Engagement Photography, Somerset

I’m looking forward to photographing Steph and Nick’s wedding in Bath soon. They’ve chosen two fabulous venues – The Pump Rooms and (drum roll please…) Bath Abbey! In the meantime I met up with them at their favourite dog walking woodland with views over Bath for their pre-wedding shoot and what a lovely spot it was. I have lots of suggestions for shoot locations but it’s extra fun when a couple show me somewhere new. So after some serious posing from Nick, a fair bit of fooling around (it was April Fool’s Day afterall) and even a few portraits of their lovely little dog Lilly, it was a wrap. Here’s a few of my faves from the shoot:

Engagement Party Photography, Bath

Sorana and Matt decided to celebrate their engagement with close family and friends at The Bath Spa Hotel and chose me as their event photographer. The grounds of the hotel are really beautiful so we took advantage of that and even though the weather let us down a little on the day we still got some great couples and family group shots. Sorana and Matt lead a glamourous life, living between Switzerland and the UK so an event like this that brought the two families together all in one place was really quite special and certainly deserved to be documented in beautiful lasting photographs to look back on in years to come. I wish Sorana and Matt the very best for their wedding which is planned for later this year and a lifetime of happiness together.

Creative Pre-Wedding Shoot, Wiltshire

I met up with Scarlett and Kurt one very cold morning earlier this year for their pre-wedding shoot in the town of Bradford-on-Avon, near Bath. It’s actually the town where I live so I know it well and it’s very picturesque. Scarlett and Kurt are getting married at Wick Farm this year and I’m really pleased they’ve booked me as their wedding photographer because they are such a nice couple and great fun to work with. They met whilst travelling in Buenos Aires, Scarlett was just finishing her travels whilst Kurt was just beginning his but luckily they met up again on his return to the UK and the rest, as they say, is history! Engagement shoots are a great way for couples to get used to being infront of the camera before their wedding day and for me are a way to experiment and push my work forward, so many thanks to Scarlett and Kurt for cheerfully going along with my strange requests for image ideas, I really love what we have produced together and I’m looking forward to shooting your wedding in May!

Engagement Photography in Bristol

Nicci and Danny have booked me to photograph their wedding in Bristol this year so I met up with them at Bristol Harbourside for a pre-wedding shoot to get them used to being infront of the camera and give them some lovely images to look back on once they are married. An engagement shoot like this can really help those that are camera shy to prepare for their big day but with Nicci and Danny I need not have worried about this. These two are so much fun to hang out with and naturals infront of the camera, we had a brilliant time and none of my requests seemed to phase them. I tried out lots of new ideas for shots and together we got some great images. I’m really looking forward to their wedding in May, it’s going to be fairly non traditional, infact I think it’s just going to be one big party actually which seems like the ideal wedding for this couple!

I photographed Nicci and Danny in Bristol and offer relaxed wedding and portrait photography in Bath, Bristol and the surrounding area. Teenage Portrait Photography, Gloucestershire

The Teenage Years; they are tough going. I’d not want to go back to that time in my life that’s for sure. So much change going on physically, emotionally and socially, it can be a quite a fragile time for many. It can also be a really important time for teens to take a look at themselves in a different way, to see their beauty and potential through the eyes of someone else. A teenage portrait shoot can be a massive confidence booster, a much needed remedy to the daily competitive nature of peer groups at school. There’s been a huge explotion in social media in the last few years and those facebook profile pictures or avatars are so important to teens. They are a ‘first impression’, judged by many and with great cameras now available on mobile phones I’ve noticed that photography is more important to young people than ever before. I met up with Natasha in a park in Stroud, Gloucestershire, for a portrait photoshoot with the number one aim of fun but also to create great images she can use for social media purposes and some great images her parents and grandparents will also cherish, a wonderful record of Natasha at that time in her life to look back on in years to come. Everyone is a little nervous at the start of any photoshoot, as was Natasha, but by the end she was coming up with great ideas for shots too and we were bouncing ideas off each other which was not only great fun but really creative too and I think she was very surprised at the results we produced together. Thanks Natasha for a great experience, those green eyes will break many a heart in your lifetime, I’m sure

Family Portrait Photography, Gloucestershire

One overcast November morning I travelled to Cirencester to meet the lovely Fryer family. They were given their family photoshoot session as a gift by another family member who won it in a charity auction. The auction was to raise money for a group of students from Deer Park School in Cirencester to travel to South America and help with community projects there. Growing up I lived in Gloucestershire for many years but for some reason had never visited the delightful town of Cirencester before. The Fryer’s chose the magnificent Cirencester Park for the shoot location and with all the autumn colours around it looked really beautiful. I arrived early to have a quick scout about to find the kinds of backdrops and props I wanted to use. The Fryer’s were really good sports and were happy to try all sorts of ideas for the portrait images, here’s a small selection from the day. They’ll make great Christmas gifts!

Baby Portraits, Wiltshire

Little Baby Hamish, you certainly are a cutie! I was invited to photograph you on the seventh day of your life at your home in Wiltshire. Your Mum and Dad had chosen a few outfits and props for me to use which was great as I much prefer to incorporate personal items from each family than bring my own. It helps to make each shoot a bit different and I think it makes the images a little more special too. For someone so young you have a strong and determined spirit, little man. There was no way you were going to nap until you felt good and ready was there? With so much to see around the room you were keen to take it all in but we waited, and waited, and waited… and just as we wondered whether to postpone the shoot you feel asleep (hooray!) enabling me to get some great shots, so thanks for that.

Wedding Photography at The Woolley Grange Hotel, Wiltshire

I was thrilled to be booked to photograph Michelle and Duncan’s wedding, the smallest wedding I’ve done so far, with only six guests. The venue for the ceremony was St Michael’s Church, Burnett (near Keynsham), the smallest church I’ve ever seen and perfect for a tiny intimate wedding like theirs. The reception venue was the Woolley Grange Hotel in Bradford-on-Avon, literally just around the corner from my house so that was pretty handy too! Michelle arrived in a fabulous pillar box red car and looked stunning in her beautiful floaty wedding dress, with layers of light fabric and sparkly strap details she looked very elegant. Duncan and his brother, Dominic, looked great in their sharp suits too. The ceremony was very moving and it was wonderful to witness Michelle and Duncan’s love for each other as they exited the church and just held each other, eyes closed. They’ve been together for 13 years and have two children so there’s a deep bond between them which was clearly evident throughout the day. After a few photos including the all important ‘confetti shot’ it was off to Bradford-on-Avon for champagne on arrival served with some sunshine which everyone was pleased to see. We had some great light for their couples shots and Woolley Grange has some lovely settings for photographs; willow trees, an old fashioned walled garden and a large pond. Soon it was time for me to say my goodbyes as the family sat down to dinner, but they didn’t let me escape before I had to be the other side of the lens for a few quick snaps with the Bride and her Mum. Thank you Michelle and Duncan for inviting me to be a part of your intimate day, I felt very privileged and wish you both every happiness over the years to come.

Creative Bristol Wedding Photography at The Pump House

I met Laura and Boris earlier this year, you may remember the beautiful pre-wedding shoot I did for them on that boiling hot day in Bristol (yes, we did have one day like that this summer!) Well, their wedding day soon came around and what a wonderful day it was. A creative, unique and modern wedding which was just itching to be photographed from top to toe. The day started with a ceremony at Bristol Registry Office then the whole wedding party travelled by boat to The Pump House on the harbourside for the reception. The weather was doing all sorts of things on the day from scorching sunshine to a heavy downpour of rain but nothing could have ruined people’s general enjoyment and the great atmosphere, after all it is so clear to see that Laura and Boris are true soul mates and their love for each other was what the day was all about. Laura looked elegant and fabulous, just look at the picture below - I’ve titled it ‘movie star car exit’ and I’m sure you can see why. Not to be outdone, Boris looked very dapper in his smart suit and skinny tie too! After a hog roast, BBQ and some incredibly fattening desserts guests were treated to shots of ‘Wedding Rakija’, a nod to Boris’ Croatian roots (yes, i did attempt to conduct his family group shots in my ’pigeon’ Croatian, not sure how successful I was?) then it was time for the speeches and, of course, the tears.. happy tears! So here’s to the new Mr and Mrs Bijelic! Many congratulations and all my best wishes for your future together.
